I did not turn to Christian Science for physical healing...

I did not turn to Christian Science for physical healing, but to know God. I could not answer the questions of my six-year-old daughter about God, man, creation, and death, though I had searched the churches. At this time my mother was healed of trouble with her eyes through Christian Science treatment, and I began to read the literature which was brought to the house.

I had read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, but a few months, when one night our baby, only a few months old, wakened me by her choking; and I recognized the trouble as croup, to which I had been subject as a child. I took the textbook, and it opened at page 410, and I read: "Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love. The Apostle John says: 'There is no fear in Love, but perfect Love casteth out fear. ...'" I read the words over and over and realized the truth of them, for when I returned to the baby she was sleeping peacefully. This convinced me of the truth of Christian Science. Our six-year-old daughter was placed in the Christian Science Sunday School, where her questions were answered. Later, for four years she assisted in a Christian Science Society in college, one of the greatest blessings our dear Leader provided for our young people.

Many have been the healings in our home in the last eighteen years: measles, mumps, whooping cough, and colds have been overcome so much quicker than in the old way. The healing of lack of supply would take volumes to relate. "My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus," Paul wrote to the Philippians. I am grateful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, for class instruction, and for the opportunity of serving in the Sunday school. The Church Manual is my daily guide. I can thankfully say, "[Love] prepareth a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: [Love] anointeth my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house [the consciousness] of [Love] for ever" (Science and Health, p. 578).
