When Christian Science was first brought to my notice,...
When Christian Science was first brought to my notice, I was in a very low state of health, and almost despaired of ever feeling well and strong again. I had been in this condition for several years and the doctors said that all my troubles arose from nervous debility; but, try as they would, they failed to make me well. I was constantly taking medicines and tonics; and once, when I had a very bad attack of exhaustion, I was forced to take a sleeping draft every night for almost six months, in order to get sleep. It was when I was suffering thus that a friend spoke to me of Christian Science. I was so impressed by what she said to me that I immediately bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and commenced to read it. I had read only a few paragraphs in the chapter on Prayer when a glimpse of the truth of the omnipotence of God dawned upon me, and I had an instantaneous healing of the belief in the power of tonics to strengthen me. I at once poured away the mixture I was then taking, and very soon afterwards I destroyed all the medicines in my medicine chest.
I was also healed of various forms of throat trouble which had attacked me at intervals, and which always left me weak and exhausted. Through the loving help of practitioners I have been healed of nervous dyspepsia, neuritis, and insomnia. Christian Science is such a comfort to me in my daily life and occupation, and I turn to the truth taught therein to solve my every difficulty. My heart goes out in gratitude to God that our beloved Leader was able through her pure and unselfish life to give back to the world this precious truth, and I pray that by obedience and loyalty I may interpret it in my daily life.
