We read in John's Gospel that Christ Jesus urged Peter, "Feed my sheep." Did not the Master mean that Peter should give out to mankind the truth which heals and saves? Since turning to Christian Science I have had many beautiful proofs that it makes known the same truth with which our Master told Peter to feed his sheep.
My first proof of the healing power of Christian Science occurred when I was working in a hospital in Chicago as a graduate nurse. My sister was stricken one night with what the doctors named a ruptured appendix and cystic tumors. They insisted on having her taken to the hospital, as an operation seemed the only possible chance of saving her life. I found myself taking her that same night in an ambulance through a terrific storm. I was so alone and fearful! Following the operation, pneumonia developed, and all hope of her recovery was given up. I called for every material treatment that I had ever used or heard about, but she continued to grow worse. Finally, the surgeon had all treatments stopped. He told us to make her comfortable, as she would live only a short while longer.
Previous to that time I had become acquainted with a Christian Science couple, and they had told me many times that if ever materia medica failed me I would be forced to turn to God for help. It was the most difficult step I ever took when I kissed my sister good-bye, not knowing whether she would be alive when I saw her again; but everything else had failed me and I was trusting God to guide me. A few blocks away I found a Christian Science practitioner whom I had met before. I told her about my sister, and said that if Christian Science could save her to work for her at once. Words fail to express the peace of mind and the first calm rest that came to me after all the weary hours. My sister was permanently healed in less than thirty minutes, and I had awakened and was eating the food with which our Master told Peter to feed his sheep.
