When Christian Science came into my life, it was at a...
When Christian Science came into my life, it was at a time when "man's extremity" was "God's opportunity." For three weeks I had taken no nourishment, other than three raw eggs a day. For seventeen years—ever since the birth of my son—I had been a semi-invalid. Doctors had tried most kindly and conscientiously to restore me to health, finally sending me to a hospital. After a year's time, as I was much worse, the doctor was trying to build up my strength so that I could return, as he said nothing but another operation would help me. Upon his advice we had given up housekeeping, and my husband and the children were taking their meals out. One day my husband told me that a man who boarded where they were taking their meals, had said he believed Christian Science would help me. I managed to get over to see this man, and asked him about Christian Science. I at once began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I do not know when I ceased to take medicine, but in about four weeks I was healed.
I awakened one night with the feeling that my husband was ill, and so strong was the intuition that when morning came, in spite of the protests of my sister, with whom I was staying, I returned home—to find my fears confirmed. The doctors said he was suffering from catarrhal bronchitis. I took care of him, and in a few weeks we were once more established in our own home and I was keeping house without the aid of a maid, something I had not done for years. That was over twenty-two years ago, and since then I have had better health than ever before.
One winter, a few years ago, I saw the healing of my husband of what the doctors would have called acute appendicitis; also of the smoking habit, which he had indulged in for over fifty years, and the fruition of my fondest dreams in his becoming an earnest seeker for Truth.
