Christian Science was first brought to my notice in January, 1920

Christian Science was first brought to my notice in January, 1920. Previous to this I had been suffering for over seven years with varicose ulcers on my left leg, and had consulted five doctors. They all said that they could do nothing for me, one suggesting an operation, to which I refused to submit. In December, 1919, I was compelled to stay in bed for seven weeks, and then obtained only temporary relief. While I was in this hopeless condition, a dear friend who was visiting me said: "Why do you not try Christian Science?" I had never even heard of it, but was willing to try anything that might help me. Later, we got into touch with a practitioner. I had to make a desperate effort to walk the short distance to the car which would take us to the practitioner's office, but after having a few treatments I was able to walk from the practitioner's office to my sister's home, a distance of about two miles. The first time I did so my sister was so astonished she could scarcely believe that I had really done it. I shall never forget how much I enjoyed the lovely Sunday services in the Christian Science church, also the Wednesday evening testimony meetings. They were indeed a foretaste of the "peace of God, which passeth all understanding."

Since then we have only once had the opportunity of attending a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, as we are located over one hundred miles from a Christian Science church. After returning home from my sister's, both my husband and I commenced to study the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to whom we cannot be too grateful for giving us this "pearl of great price." Soon after this we began studying the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly daily, and we derive great help this study. I am very thankful for the Christian Science periodicals.

I have been healed of constipation, rheumatism, sick headaches from which I had suffered since childhood, eczema, erysipelas, neuritis, and a stroke. This stroke attacked me quite suddenly one Friday evening just as I was about to retire for the night. I lost the use of my legs completely. The next morning on attempting to rise I could not stand alone. My husband became very much alarmed and asked if he should call in a doctor, but I said no, that I would write to my sister and ask her to get Christian Science help for me. The letter did not reach my sister until Monday afternoon. She immediately went to a practitioner, who lovingly promised to start working for me at once. On Wednesday I was able to stand alone, at the end of three weeks I was able to resume my usual household duties.
