[Written for the Sentinel]

The Comforter

Truth is my fortress and my strength,
My comfort and my rod;
In times of seeming doubt and fear,
My refuge and my God.
Through fiery trails of mind and sense
I walk with firm, sure stride;
There's naught to fear, there's naught to harm,
For He is by my side.

He gives His angels charge o'er me,
He answers when I call.
Though enemies encamp about,
He will not let me fall.

In cold, still watches of the night,
When all seems dark and drear,
His light is round about me shed;
I know that He is near.

God is my rock, my one defense,
In Him my trust shall be;
My armor is His shining truth,
The truth that makes me free.
