[Written for the Sentinel]

Speak kindly, loving heart,
And let thy gentleness the world's great famine feed.
From every mortal sense gladly depart;
Of earthly ways and pastimes take no heed.
Reflect the constant light of purity and grace;
Trust God to recompense each mortal loss;
Then will the vision shine for thee in every place,
And thou wilt welcome chastisement to purge thy dross.
