Der Friendensbote
Undoubtedly the religion which has gained more than ordinary influence because of its works of healing and regeneration, is Christian Science.
That there is a divine metaphysical law which is available to overcome discordant conditions is now generally admitted by thinking Christian people. This law has always existed, and was understood and demonstrated marvelously by outstanding figures centuries before Jesus' time. The master Christian, who undoubtedly demonstrated it more perfectly than anyone else who has ever trod the globe, taught that its power was available to all who would follow his teachings; and in consequence wonderful works continued to be done for about three hundred years after he left this earth. Then adulteration of the pure spiritual essence of the Christian religion, as established by Christ Jesus, commenced to rob it of its vitality, until the power to interpret and demonstrate God's law was lost.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, defines her discovery as "the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1). Obviously, then, the healing works of Christian Science are demonstrations of this law of God, the law which through her discovery is again found available to meet human needs. The so-called power of the human or carnal mind has no part in Christian Science healing; for, as Paul declares, "It is not subject to the law of God." Christian Science teaches that God is the one omnipotent divine Mind, the one lawgiver. Only on this basis can His law, spiritual law, be demonstrated.
