[Written for the Sentinel]

Purified

A gentle shower of cooling rain
Fell on my little world to-day;
And in its quiet, tender way
Has washed away the dust and stain.

The tiny flowering things of Thine
In gladness raised their heads to say,
We thank Thee, Father, more each day
For tender care and love divine.

The healing thought of present good
Fell on my listening ears to-day;

And from me sin was washed away
As God was better understood.

And now through windows bright and clean,
I gaze upon a world made pure
From error's thrall and earth's allure,
While all around God's love is seen.
