Gratitude to God, our heavenly Father, to Christ Jesus,...

Gratitude to God, our heavenly Father, to Christ Jesus, and to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has for some time made me wish to relate how I was led into Christian Science. Eight years ago I suffered from rheumatism and was asked by dear friends to try Christian Science; but not knowing what it was, I scoffed at it, saying that if the physicians could not help me Christian Science could not do so either. Months went by, and with the following spring the pain and trouble disappeared; but in August I fell off a train and was brought home suffering intensely, and grew steadily worse. I ignorantly prayed to God, but believed He had forsaken me. I used all the will-power I could summon, but at the end of a week both will-power and strength gave out and I had to come to a decision. Fear of the hospital made me ask for help in Christian Science. This was lovingly given, and after a few hours I felt relieved of a great load. When my friend telephoned and asked how I was, I rejoiced to tell her that I was feeling much easier. In the evening she visited me. I explained how the accident happened; but she told me to "fear not." After a present treatment I slept all night, though I had not slept for a week. I awoke with joy in my heart, being perfectly free and normal. Oh, glorious never-to-be-forgotten Sunday morning—I went to The Mother Church for the first time!

I then secured a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and studied every spare moment for a few weeks, when I had to leave for New Mexico, as my sister wanted my help. In stopping over in Chicago to see my brother I awoke at midnight with intense pain in the bowels. Finding my voice too weak to be heard, I despaired; then the thought came, Child, you are forgetting so soon that God is your life. I clung to that word until I finally must have gone to sleep; and in the morning only a little weakness reminded me of the experience. While taking a walk later in the park I was seized with rheumatism and my knees gave way; but with God's help I was able to reach a bench and worked silently as we are taught in Christian Science. My brother took me to the railroad station and carried me into the train, while I was thinking of Hymn 240, the first line of which begins, "All power is given." The journey took forty-eight hours, and I clung to the Bible and the textbook, while I was indebted to fellow travelers for food from the dining cars, as the trouble increased and I could not stand or walk until a few hours before arriving at my destination, when I got up, dressed myself with much difficulty, and packed my belongings. Divine Love supplied my every need, and when the train stopped I was able to carry my luggage and stepped off the train perfectly free from every discord, so that all my fellow passengers marveled. I was rejoicing that my prayer for deliverance had been answered, and the troubles has never returned.

I could recite countless proofs of God's care and tender mercy. I was healed of wearing glasses after using them for more than twenty years. I hope this testimony will help someone who is struggling for the truth. My great desire is for growth in grace, so that I may be able to reflect God, Love, more.—(Miss) Martha Hinrichsen, Wollaston, Massachusetts.
