I read with interest the article on faith healing by a clergyman in a recent issue of your paper, and especially his statement: "Jesus had perfect understanding of every law of God, his Father. Every one of his miracles was the application of the law of his Father to the needs of the moment." This is a truth so valuable that if mankind understood its full purport, and acted accordingly, the world would indeed realize, as did Jesus, the presence of the kingdom of God. In his article, however, the vicar makes reference to Christian Science in such a way that persons unacquainted with its teachings and methods may infer that it partakes of the nature of hypnotism, mesmerism, or suggestion. I shall be glad, therefore, if you will give me the opportunity to make a brief statement to your readers.

Christian Science declares that disease is due to ignorance of God and His law, and that an understanding of God and the application of His law heals disease. Humanity has "sought out many inventions" for the cure of disease and pinned its faith to them, but it is obvious that such things as superstition, human will-power, self-mesmerism, or even a blind faith in God, cannot correct a condition due to ignorance of God and divine law, and that any seeming benefit is the result of human faith in them. One can correct ignorance on any subject only with an understanding of that subject. Jesus healed disease through an understanding of God, Spirit, and the application of spiritual law. This is the method taught and used in Christian Science.
