[Written for the Sentinel]

"As a little child"

How we love in thought to picture
That fair scene in Galilee,
Jesus with the little children
Gladly clustered at his knee,

With their clear eyes looking upward
To the gentle face above,
Smiling down a tender blessing
From his Christly heart of love.

In his arms so safely folded,
Naught they know of doubt or fear,
Just a happy, full surrender
To his friendship, sweet and dear.

And we seem to hear him speaking
Once again those words of old,
Bidding us in heart be childlike,
Thus to gain the heavenly fold.

Let us then like little children
Seek our Father's loving arms,
And in simple faith and gladness,
Know we're safe from all that harms.
