"The babe we are to cherish"
What is this babe which is to be cherished—this infant for which we all sigh? Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, tells us (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 370): "In this age it assumes, more intelligently than ever before, the form of Christian healing. This is the babe we are to cherish. This is the babe that twines its loving arms about the neck of omnipotence, and calls forth infinite care from His loving heart."
Every loyal Christian Scientist is called to action in the field of Christian healing. The world is large, the fields are wide, and we must remember the babe who moves over the earth ready to bring beauty, joy, and comfort to all. Perhaps the hard crust of materiality prevents the human heart from accepting this babe, but the babe knows no limitations—no prohibitions. With its arms about omnipotence it radiates unceasing confidence, love, and joy impartially to all.
Do we, in our dealings with each other in church, business, or home, always keep clearly in thought that our deepest motive should be to cherish and develop the babe of Christian healing—the babe who steals gently into thought, and there with vigor and joy supplants error with Truth? It rouses thought to seek the lovely images of God that are the ideals for individual activity. It has the courage to voice the words of Truth and Love which correct misguided, ill-chosen, and thoughtless speech. It quiets and eases, through a higher scientific understanding, the distempers, ignorance, and malice inflaming mankind.
