I wish to testify to a quick, wonderful healing through Christian Science. In the winter of 1923 my face began to twitch nervously, a condition which was a great drawback in my occupation; besides this, my summer engagement was canceled. My wife also complained of her eyes, which were getting worse every day. What was I to do? The disastrous war had already caused us a great deal of affliction, and now I was near despair. I had never heard anything about Christian Science, and so I turned to the out-patient department of a hospital for treatment for my complaint. The doctor did his best all summer to heal me, but I grew continually worse; so I asked him to discontinue treatment, as the time was approaching for me to commence my winter engagement. As I knew of nobody here to whom I could confidentially describe my condition, I wrote to a friend and colleague in Riga, Latvia, with whom I had been in St. Petersburg for many years. I poured out my heart to him. Within a week I received a reply. He advised me to go to a Christian Science practitioner, who would tell me what to do; if I obeyed everything and had confidence, he said, I should soon be physically and economically reestablished. Acting upon his advice, my wife and I went to a practitioner, by whom we were most lovingly received and listened to. We were assured that if we had confidence in God, everything would turn out for the best. A copy of Der Herold der Christian Science and various other pieces of Christian Science literature were given me, and these explained Christian Science to me. Through these my attention was called to the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Eagerly I read the book, and noticed that my condition improved daily. The nervous twitching disappeared after a second visit to the practitioner. My wife, too, has improved. Our domestic affairs, also, began to improve immediately.
Had we not found the way to Christian Science, we should have been helpless; and we thank God for the wonderful healing. We are grateful for Mrs. Eddy, who led us to the recognition of our real selves. We are also sincerely grateful to the practitioner, and to the Christian Science friends who helped us.—Otto Neumann, Winterthur, Switzerland.
