Yorkshire Evening News
A bishop is apparently disturbed because Christian Science "has taken such an amazing hold on the United States of America" and that it "has been spreading with startling rapidity, especially in the large towns here in England." But why should he be, if, as he states, "it is unquestionable that many have found relief from following its precepts"? Christian Science was discovered because the world had need of a practical religion; and this need is being met even by what the bishop terms "the false teaching of Christian Science."
The power of God is as present to-day to heal the sick and raise the dead as in the time of Christ Jesus. The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, realized this; and when the churches free themselves from rites and ceremonies and creeds, and follow the simple teaching of Christ Jesus, giving all power to God and none to a supposititious opposite of God, the healing works will naturally follow. In the meantime, surely the most Christlike attitude for the churches to adopt with regard to Christian Science is to withhold censure, and improve their own practice of the power of prayer to heal all the ills of mankind.
