The Practicality of Christian Science

At the midweek testimony meetings held in all Christian Science churches throughout the world, testimonies may be heard of the healing of sickness and of so-called incurable diseases by Christian Science; also, testimonies of freedom gained from sinful habits, of the healing of sorrow, poverty, and business difficulties; indeed, of every kind of discordant condition of mortal existence—proving the practical value of Christian Science. Thousands of grateful men and women are finding the truth as taught in Christian Science to be a practical guide in daily experience. It is not strange, therefore, that Christian Scientists express heartfelt gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and the author of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," for the great benefits they have derived from her teachings.

A physical healing by Christian Science is almost invariably accompanied by an improved understanding of God; for when one is healed of sickness or disease through Christian Science, his spiritual progress or regeneration has begun: the body improves as thought improves, as thought is cleansed of erroneous beliefs. This spiritual healing is the natural result of the operation of the Christ, Truth, in human consciousness, destroying the false belief in the reality of disease and sin; and thus is one lifted out of material beliefs and advanced morally and spiritually.

The fact is becoming more generally understood that health is a mental state; and the ill effects of fear, worry, and anger are being recognized. Material methods, which are becoming more generally known to be unreliable, tend to induce fear and uncertainty; and a constant expectancy of being overtaken by some phase or other of evil is entertained by many. The spiritual truths which Christian Science reveals, replace fear with confidence in, and reliance upon, God; and man's relation to Him becomes better understood.
