The Light of Life

"In him was life; and the life was the light of men."—John 1:4.

When a man shall come in his journey
To the mythical threescore and ten,
Should he yield consent to a mortal law
That would limit the lives of men?

Has he not a right to press onward,
His vigor and strength renew?
And count not the years of a mortal dream,
But the joy of living pursue?

Life that knows no beginning,
Life that never shall cease,
Forever and ever at-one with God,
Full of joy and unending peace,

Life that is free from weakness,
That knows not sickness or pain,
Nor remembers aught of a burdened past,
Whose loss is eternal gain!

Forever is Truth's clear shining,
Forever, the Father's love,
His angels guarding and guiding
The way to the heights above.
