I would appreciate space in your paper to correct a wrong impression given in the address of an evangelist, and printed by you in your recent issue. The evangelist testified in his address that he had tried Christian Science and other things and had received no benefit; that he had found no assistance in changing his mode of living, and that then he "gave his heart to God." It is evident that the evangelist never apprehended the truth about God and man as it is set forth in Christian Science. He is passing on in that address his misunderstanding and misapprehension under the name of evangelism, while he belittles Christian Science and classes it with mesmerism. The evangelist is apparently totally unfamiliar with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, in which the truth about this greatest religious movement of modern times is fully set forth. This textbook shows that mesmerism, suggestion, and the attacking of an individual or the good work done by anyone, are strictly forbidden in Christian Science practice. Christian Science practices what it preaches. The first two tenets of Christian Science set forth the fundamental Christianity of this religion. The first one reads (Science and Health, p. 497), "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." The second reads: "We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness."

The results of the practice of Christian Science speak for themselves. In half a century it has established over two thousand churches and societies throughout the world, and has to its credit thousands upon thousands of well-authenticated healings of all kinds of disease. The followers of Christian Science almost invariably come from the ranks of those who have experienced healing personally. Christian Science conducts no evangelistic services, and does not campaign in any special way for members. It attacks no individual, no sect, denomination, or profession, but it heals and lets the results speak for themselves. Mrs. Eddy has said on pages 348 and 349 of Science and Health: "I have never supposed the world would immediately witness the full fruitage of Christian Science, or that sin, disease, and death would not be believed for an indefinite time; but this I do aver, that, as a result of teaching Christian Science, ethics and temperance have received an impulse, health has been restored, and longevity increased. If such are the present fruits, what will the harvest be, when this Science is more generally understood?"
