I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing,...
I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing, although that was the first sign that something different was taking place in my consciousness. I had always been a sickly woman, and had tried almost every remedy for this weakness which seemed to leave me so helpless.
One day a dear friend asked me to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I did so, and enjoyed it so much that I took the last three dollars I had and purchased the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Almost immediately I found myself strong and well; and I have not used any medicine or material remedies in eight years. After I had been reading the book for a while and found myself so well physically, I suddenly realized that the teachings of Mrs. Eddy were quite contrary to what I had previously been studying—newthought, spiritualism, and similar cults. I kept on reading Christian Science, because I learned to love the "little book." I loved to attend all the services, and much preferred being there to being elsewhere.
It has taken many years for me to attain to the spirituality which gives me all I need every minute. I have been through deep waters, through sickness, sorrow, loneliness, separation, and lack, but I never have wanted to give up the beautiful teachings of Christian Science. Now I can say that I have found the "pearl of great price," which can never be taken from me. New beauties of holiness are being unfolded each day; and I am learning to take no thought for to-morrow. My gratitude to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of this practical religion, can never be expressed in words; for she has taught me of the God to whom I can turn in every need, and who never fails. I am indeed grateful to God, and to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower.—(Mrs.) Georgene Van Hollen, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
