I am grateful that a knowledge of Christian Science enables one to demonstrate the power of infinite divine Mind, which heals.

Over seven years ago I was permanently healed of the smoking habit while reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for the first time; also, a very trying business difficulty was satisfactorily cleared up at the same time. Having been a smoker for ten or eleven years, using from six to ten cigars a day, and not having succeeded in giving up the habit after repeated attempts, I had almost decided that it had come to stay. Since the healing took place, however, I have never had any desire to smoke. Later, with the help of a practitioner, I was healed of incipient pneumonia in one treatment.

While on a business trip in a distant city about three years later, I had a very painful condition of my left eye. At first it seemed as if a foreign substance like a cinder or a splinter might have got in, causing the extreme pain; but an eye specialist told me that it was a very bad case of what is termed "plastic iritis," and explained to me that the pupil of the eye had grown to the iris, and that this was the reason for the painful condition. He stated that I should immediately place myself under the care of an eye doctor, and go to the hospital so that I could have the right kind of attention, or else go home as quickly as I could and have it properly attended to there.
