[Written for the Sentinel]

The Christian Science Sentinel

You come to me like some dear comrade-friend,
With love's assurance in each message penned,
To feed my hungry heart with words of cheer
That comfort me and heal of doubt and fear.
You give me further faith and lift my thought
To substance wholly good that God has wrought;
You hold a lighted lamp that I may see
Untasted plenty in reality.

When I have read your strengthening message through,
I then rejoice in good you still may do—
Supplying loaf and fish for one who waits
Far down some barren road, or hesitates
Upon a starless, desert way; and so
I speed you on your journey, while I know
That you have hope and holiness to lend;
The Lord's face shine upon you, comrade-friend!
