Preparation

In endeavoring to convey to the Corinthians some comprehension of the wonderful blessings that follow a turning to God, Paul said, "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." Now, if God has prepared blessings for those that love Him, we who love God ought to prepare to receive these blessings, by purging ourselves of all that is unlike good, and by expressing our gratitude in word and in deed for blessings already received, thereby opening the door to more of good.

Paul also said, "If a man therefore purge himself, ... he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work." We prepare to visit or receive a business associate or a friend. How much more should we prepare to receive God!

Christian Scientists are unspeakably grateful for the years their beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, gave to the search for Truth, for the writing of her priceless textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and for the founding and organizing of the Church of Christ, Scientist. It is a fact that a very substantial part of Mrs. Eddy's work, after her discovery of Christian Science, was given to the work of preparation. She prepared her students to preach the gospel and heal the sick, and to organize branch churches of The Mother Church. She prepared that greatest of all manuals, the Manual of The Mother Church, which will continue to guide Christian Scientists until all mankind shall have come into the realization of God's kingdom. And these stupendous tasks of preparation for the coming of the kingdom to the consciousness of mankind are complete and unassailable.
