I want to express my gratitude for the many blessings...
I want to express my gratitude for the many blessings that have come to me in the short time I have been interested in Christian Science. I became interested in The Christian Science Monitor in a business way about four years ago—through advertising done in this publication by the firm which employs me. While the Monitor did not mean anything to me at first, the results obtained through the advertising made me wonder just what kind of paper it was; so I started to read it. I found it to be the finest newspaper I had ever read; and after reading a few of its religious articles, I knew that Christian Science was the religion I wanted. At this time I was a member of an orthodox church, took an active part in many of its activities, and taught in the Sunday school; but I was growing restless, and was thinking of giving up the whole thing, as it did not seem to satisfy me, and I was doing all this work more as a duty than for the love of it.
While I did not accept Christian Science especially for healing, I was curious to know if poor eyesight could be healed when one had worn glasses nearly all one's life. It seemed impossible to me, because the glasses seemed verily to be a part of me. After attending a few of the Wednesday evening testimony meetings, I asked a practitioner if she thought my eyes could be healed. She explained clearly and lovingly that sight is spiritual and not material, and that I, God's child, just needed an awakening. This gave me some hope; and as I wanted to know more, I made an appointment to see her at her home. After the second treatment, and within a month's time, I removed the glasses, which had been worn steadily for twenty-two years. The day came when I just had to take them off, and I have not needed them for anything since. This was on March 5, 1925. I can never be grateful enough to the loving practitioner who has helped me so much. After I removed the glasses, there were several occasions when fear tried to get in, but this was always quickly overcome by the help of the practitioner. I am indeed grateful for this healing, but more so for the spiritual understanding I am gaining; and I want to express my gratitude by living daily in accord with the teachings of Christian Science. I am also grateful that members of my family are now becoming interested in Christian Science and proving it for themselves.
I should like to relate an experience which proved the efficacy of Christian Science in business. I am employed as secretary to the advertising manager of a large concern. On account of illness he was compelled to be away from the office for two months, and I was left alone to handle the work myself. At first it seemed far beyond me, because the responsibility of the situation frightened me; and it just seemed impossible for me to work properly. But after talking with a practitioner, I soon began to realize that I reflected divine intelligence and would know what to do and be able to handle whatever came along. So through the whole two months, Christian Science was a wonderful help to me, and never failed when rightly applied. Whenever I would seem confused, I would realize that God filled all space, and that there was no reality to confusion, since God was not the author of it; and almost immediately the situation would clear up and I would know what to do.
