Sixteen and a half years ago, when I first heard of Christian Science...

Sixteen and a half years ago, when I first heard of Christian Science, I was a very unhappy young woman. I was suffering from the effects of a serious nervous breakdown, and very frequently was subject to attacks of deepest depression and despair. Everything seemed hopeless, and evil very real. When I had been reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy for a fortnight, I found I was healed of a bowel disorder for which I had taken medicine almost daily for years; and I am grateful to say that it has not been necessary for me to take any medicine since. Also, at this time, I found that great confidence in good had come to me, and joy such as I had never experienced before. And as I read on, I found that this confidence was in reality confidence in God, for Christian Science teaches that God is good. Since that time there have been dark days when material sense has seemed very real, but I have always known that when I could become conscious of the truth which Mrs. Eddy has given us in Science and Health and her other writings, I should be healed—and this has always been so. The wonderful assurance which Mrs. Eddy's words on page 2 of Science and Health give us, "God is not moved by the breath of praise to do more than He has already done, nor can the infinite do less than bestow all good, since He is unchanging wisdom and Love," has been a source of great comfort, and has helped me many times.

Since first I commenced the study of Christian Science I have been steadily growing stronger, and better in health than I thought at one time was possible. I have been healed physically many times, sometimes instantaneously; at other times the healing has been slower. There have been two outstanding healings: one of a badly ricked knee, which was healed instantaneously, and one of a badly sprained ankle, which was healed in three days.

I am grateful to Christian Science for the understanding of God which comes to us through its teaching, and for the increasing understanding that God is the source of our supply; also for the inward desire which comes with it to express more of the Life which we understand to be God. I count among my blessings the fact that my husband and I have known only Christian Science in our home, having heard of it a few weeks before our marriage. I am most grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her purity and her consecrated life, which enabled her to give again to the world the truth which Christ Jesus taught. I am grateful for class teaching and to the practitioners who have so lovingly helped me many times; also, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for the privilege of taking an active part in the work of a Church of Christ, Scientist.
