Hawkes Bay Tribune

Judging from the lecture recently given by a doctor on matters of health, as reported in the Tribune, it is evident that the lecturer has no knowledge of the teaching and practice of Christian Science. The "faith" that is required in Christian Science is that based on the understanding of God's law; and "prayer" is not merely asking that the sick may be healed, but includes a recognition of the omnipotence and omnipresence of God. Mrs. Eddy defined Christian Science as "the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony" (rudimental Divine Science, p. 1); and since it deals with absolute truth and its demonstration, of necessity it is true Science. Medical experts, on the other hand, have recognized that medical science is not exact science. Anyone who studies the history of medicine, its theories and experiments, accepted maybe for a time as true but later discarded as false, will admit that, so far, medicine has not reached the point of science, if that word be rightly understood. those who accept the teaching of the Bible must believe that God can and does heal "all manner of disease," even as they recognize that the only limitations of His healing are those they fix for themselves.
