Thank you for the recognition in one of your recent editorials that Christian Science is a discovery. However, may I point out what Mrs. Eddy discovered and what is needed by the student; so that it will be clear that her discovery was not "partial," but final and complete? Indeed, it is true that the "religion of Jesus Christ was for all humanity." That religion, the Christianity of Christ Jesus, was complete and included the correction of all evil, ranging from the ills of selfishness and sensuality, through the fears and diseases of mankind, to the "last enemy that shall be destroyed," death. Jesus proved his complete dominion over every erroneous condition by destroying sin, healing sickness, and conquering death for himself and others. Did Jesus regard these deeds as miraculous? Did he do them simply to show his own ability? Did he not thus rather indicate the effect of a perfect spiritual understanding of God and of man's relation to Him, and of the law underlying that relation? The latter conclusion is clearly drawn from Jesus' teachings, wherein he said, "I can of mine own self do nothing," and, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."
In other words, these deeds were the natural effects of a supreme spiritual law, which was completely understood and applied by Jesus—a law that never brought evil, but always brought good; and the healing works were done by Christ Jesus as the Way-shower, for the benefit of mankind. Through years of consecrated study of the Bible, and by casting aside all material theories, Mary Baker Eddy discovered the spiritual law underlying Christ Jesus' works. She demonstrated the completeness of her discovery by healing herself and others, through spiritual means alone. Students of Mrs. Eddy's writings are now doing the same healing works promptly. As the individual puts Mrs. Eddy's teachings into practice and drops the weaknesses of the flesh, he grows in spirituality; and in proportion to his spiritual growth, he demonstrates what she discovered. Individual Christian Scientists seeking to follow Christ Jesus' command, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect," are growing, and will continue to grow, in the application of Mrs. Eddy's discovery. The religion of Christ Jesus is complete; and Mrs. Eddy's discovery of its underlying law is complete also, and is set forth fully in her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
