I should like to say how grateful I am to Christian Science...
I should like to say how grateful I am to Christian Science for the immense help it has been, and is, to me and mine. I have known what Christian Science is for three and a half years, during which time it has helped us as a family on many occasions. We have resorted to it for help in physical and mental healing, and never without success.
Every mother will understand what I mean when I say what a relief it has been to me in the care of our two young children, to know that there is an ever present help in case of need. I have got rid of a mass of fears of all sorts, some of them absurd, others to mortal mind legitimate, which I imagine beset every mother in the daily routine of child welfare. One winter both our children were cured of bronchitis and colds in two days, after two treatments. This was especially remarkable in the case of the elder child, who, when a tiny tot, was subject to attacks of bronchitis which usually lasted three weeks. The same winter she had what looked like a bad attack; for the first night the symptoms were alarming, and I almost let fear creep in. But I resolved firmly not to be afraid, and not to apply any material remedy. I worked at night by her bedside, relieved by my husband, and in the morning she was a little better. I asked for treatment by a practitioner, and by the end of the week she was healed.
I should like to tell of an instance of the good done indirectly by Christian Science. A servant of ours fell ill, and as she is not a Scientist, she asked for medical care. The doctor diagnosed the illness as a very mild form of scarlet fever, but said we must take the same precautions as in a severe case, on account of possible infection. I nursed the patient myself, realizing the while that no ill could befall me; and I asked a practitioner for help for the family, in order to protect us from the belief of contagion. After ten days, the doctor declared that the patient could go to her family in the country to convalesce, but must remain away a month, so that, as he said, there should be no further danger of infection. At the end of the month she came back, and told me there were no apparent after effects of scarlet fever. This result we consider a further proof of the protection afforded by Christian Science. In the above instance the patient, although not receiving treatment, benefited indirectly by the right thought in regard to disease.
