My mother was led to Christian Science in search of a soul-satisfying form of religion, over eleven years ago. I naturally was interested in this subject, of which up to then I had known nothing, and whenever possible I read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. From the first moment the wonderful logic of the book held me; the clear thoughts proceeded so methodically from one point to another, they held me spellbound. It was not, however, for another three years that I really had great need to test for myself the truths explained in the textbook. Since that time physical healings have followed each other in quick succession. In our home stoppage of the bowels, fever, whooping cough, measles, bronchial pneumonia, so-called chronic dysentery, double hernia, constipation, grippe, and several other complaints have all been met and overcome by, as our dear Leader states on page vii of the Preface to Science and Health, "leaning on the sustaining infinite."
It is impossible to put into words the glorious sense of freedom that is given to one while seriously studying Christian Science; and it is still more difficult to explain the glorious spiritual uplift which is gained during this study. This truth has never failed us, and every day we just try to realize that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (ibid., p. 494). A short time ago I was again blessed in being allowed sufficient understanding of the truth to demonstrate harmonious childbirth, every discordant condition being overcome as it seemed to appear. I feel deeply grateful to God, to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, to the loyal practitioners and a devoted Christian Science nurse, and to all those who labor that the truth of Christian Science may be published and placed within the reach of all.—(Mrs.) Catherine Leonora Padgett, London, England.
