A recent lecture on Christian Science by an authorized member of the Board of Lectureship of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, which was radiocast from station WCX, the Detroit Free Press, has occasioned some correspondence in your columns relative to the nature or supposed reality of evil. The teachings of Christian Science on this point are simple, Biblical, and demonstrable. They are wholly based on the perfection of God's spiritual creation, as it is described in the first chapter of Genesis. It was not until "there went up a mist from the earth that the universe appeared to take on a material, perishable aspect, replete with possibilities of discord and death. It is only by removing or correcting this mystified view of things that discord and death can be overcome, and the spiritual, harmonious nature of man and the universe be understood and realized.

The ability of a bank teller to recognize genuine currency enables him to detect and reject counterfeit money. Similarly, it is by understanding the Science of creation that our beliefs in evil must be surmounted. Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has written in her book "United of Good" (p. 6): "Sooner or later the whole human race will learn that, in proportion as the spotless selfhood of God is understood, human nature will be renovated, and man will receive a higher selfhood, derived from God, and the redemption of mortals from sin, sickness, and death be established on everlasting foundations."
