Acquiring a Demonstrable Understanding of Christian Science

When the beginner in Christian Science experiences his first healing by its method and commences to realize some of the many benefits to be derived from using the understanding he has gained, he may, quite naturally, desire to engage immediately in the professional practice of Christian Science, so as to bring to the recognition of others this joyous healing power of Christ, Truth. His desire is commendable; but he must remember that there is much spiritual enlightenment to be gained, and many material beliefs must be overcome as he learns to demonstrate man's oneness with the Father and the ever-availability and all-sufficiency of God to annihilate evil in its every form.

The earnest student should be encouraged with the glorious prospects before him. While faithfully studying the Bible in connection with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as well as all of Mrs. Eddy's other writings, and taking additional preparatory steps as stated in the Manual of The Mother Church, which Mrs. Eddy has provided for the student of Christian Science as necessary in demonstration his progress Spiritward, he may begin at once, while Truth is unfolding in his consciousness, and exactly where he is, to demonstrate the divine Science of metaphysical healing.

On page 485 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy advises: "Emerge gently from matter into Spirit. Think not to thwart the spiritual ultimate of all things, but come naturally into Spirit through better health and morals and as the result of spiritual growth." To be particularly heeded, while one is gently emerging from matter into Spirit, is the need of improving opportunities to-day (making opportunities if necessary) for the systematic study of the Bible Lessons as given in the Christian Science Quarterly; doing daily metaphysical work to solve the problems confronting one; living rather than talking Christian Science, working for the evangelization of self.
