I began the study of Christian Science several years ago...

I began the study of Christian Science several years ago when a serious eye trouble and other physical disorders threatened to prevent me from continuing my work as a teacher. One of the foremost oculists of the state told me it would be impossible for me to go on with my work, and would be necessary for me to go into a sanitarium for a long and complete rest. At the time I was living in the home of a Christian Scientist, and had been attracted by the happy, serene life she was living after passing through a great sorrow. She explained some of the teachings of Christian Science to me, and I purchased the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, began its study, and also went to see a practitioner. I continued my work successfully for several years after that, and seldom missed a day. I was able to read, sew, and use my eyes in every way it seemed needful without ill effects.

After my marriage my husband became interested in Christian Science when he saw its healing power demonstrated again and again not only in sickness, but in the overcoming of sorrow and sin as well. Our little son, seven years old, has received many beautiful healings. A bowel trouble which manifested itself when he was only a few days old was completely healed. Whooping cough, measles, and chicken pox were quickly overcome.

Some of my healings have come slowly, and I am still striving to overcome some inharmonious conditions; but I know that I am enjoying a measure of health and freedom which I should never have known without this beautiful truth. A short time ago I experienced a healing for which I am very grateful, for I know that I was saved from a long and serious illness. I had been trying to overcome a severe cold, but one morning I found it very difficult to rise. However, I did so, and tried to go about my work as usual. By ten o'clock I was so overcome by a sense of illness that it seemed as if I would lapse into unconsciousness. I managed to telephone a practitioner for help, and went to bed. All through the day I seemed too ill to think clearly, but whenever the sinking condition seemed about to overcome me I clung to this promise: "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." The realization of infinite support saved me each time.
