[Written for the Sentinel]

My Prayer

Dear Father-Mother God, I plead,
As did the king so long ago,
For wisdom, richest gift of Love,
That I the right may always know.

An understanding heart I crave,
And my desire is known to Thee.
"Desire is prayer."* In faith I come;
And Thou wilt give this gift to me.

A hungry heart is not denied;
There's always bread enough—to spare.
A thirst for righteousness is met
With tender, loving, faithful care.

Then I would come to Thee, dear God,
For light and wisdom day by day;
With heart receptive I would seek
To know the path of Truth alway.
