In August, several years ago, a year after my marriage, I was taken suddenly ill with ptomaine poisoning. That winter we went to California and I was ill all the time with intestinal indigestion. I could not eat any substantial food, and finally ate nothing but beef juice. A leading surgeon wished to perform an operation, but I knew that I would never live through it, as I was reduced in weight and strength to a shadow. At this point I decided to have Christian Science treatment. My mother-in-law was a Christian Scientist, and she had given me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy to read.

On Friday night I called a practitioner; and I slept all night. The practitioner called on me on Saturday, and on Sunday I went out riding in an automobile and ate all I wished—including beefsteak and hot muffins. On Monday I started to come across the continent for home. The practitioner gave me passages to read in the textbook after each meal. This study occupied my thought for over an hour. I also had absent treatment every day. I ate all I wished at every meal on the way home. I was healed, have remained healed, and have gained greatly in weight.

My little daughter has been healed of whooping cough, measles, and croup. All our family have been helped and healed over and over again. I was healed of inflammatory rheumatism and neuritis about three years ago after being in the "valley of the shadow." This last healing took several weeks to accomplish, but one day all pain and stiffness suddenly left me; and they have never returned. I have also been healed of constipation and extreme nervousness.
