Staying with the Truth

How many times do erstwhile earnest students of Christian Science fail in their endeavors to demonstrate the power of Truth over error! They begin their work with zeal and a clear vision of the power and omnipresence of Truth and Love, which results in an improved outward condition; but still, the complete healing is protracted. What then?

Some may be tempted to believe that the truth which they have declared cannot have been the specific truth for the case; that every phase of the case has not been considered; or any one of many other arguments may attempt at this point to break down the wall of defense. Peter, in his endeavor to demonstrate his dominion over the material law of gravity by walking on the water, in imitation of Jesus, lost a rich reward by noting that the wind was "boisterous." It is true that he made some progress, but he failed to keep his gaze fixed steadfastly enough on Truth. He looked on matter, contemplating its seeming condition, and became filled with fear.

In his rich teaching Jesus in many instances made plain the remedy for this distressing condition, this lack of ability to demonstrate consistently and unerringly the omnipotence of Truth and Love. As in all quandaries in which we seem to be involved, the answer may be found in the Bible. Jesus "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin;" and so, by prayerfully and expectantly studying the teachings and works of the great Metaphysician, the Ensample for all true Christian Scientists, we receive our answer.
