Gratitude for the teachings of Christian Science and for...
Gratitude for the teachings of Christian Science and for the inspired life and selfless love of our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, prompts the giving of this testimony.
Christian Science came into my life as the direct answer to prayer. Through the study of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the patient, loving help of a practitioner I was healed, in a few weeks, of a malignant growth. This condition had caused intense suffering, and for months I had not slept normally. However, after the first treatment in Christian Science I slept soundly all night, and shall never forget the awakening next morning—I had awakened from more than a mere night's sleep. I was so conscious of Love's ever-presence and I found myself saying over and over, "Truly, 'the tabernacle of God is with men.'" The physical healing was not yet manifested, but I was keenly conscious of a beautiful "something" weaving its way into my life and making my whole outlook on life oh, so different, bringing joy, love, gratitude, tenderness, compassion—yes, and then the complete healing. But, somehow, when that healing came, wonderful as it was, it did not mean to me what I had thought it would, because in the interval I had learned something of the spiritual man,—the only real selfhood,—and this eternal fact outweighed all else.
Since this first beautiful healing in Christian Science about twelve years ago, many valuable and much needed lessons have been learned, and I am humbly grateful for them all. Our dear Leader writes in Science and Health (p. 322), "Without this process of weaning, 'Canst thou by searching find out God?'"
