From babyhood I had enjoyed what the world is wont to call good physical health. However, there was one physical difficulty which I had had since childhood. While it did not cause me any suffering, it was nevertheless annoying. The aid of many physicians had been sought to master the situation, but they could not do anything except hold forth the hope that I would probably outgrow it. When I reached my early teens there were no apparent signs to indicate that this was occurring. Just at this point a member of my family became interested in Christian Science and the truth was immediately applied to this condition, with the result that it entirely disappeared; and it was several months later that both my family and I realized that this healing had taken place.
Directly following this I was placed in a Christian Science Sunday School, and there I began to learn a little of this truth. From this time on the physical difficulties which I had to meet were very few. However, we soon learn in Science that the true sense of health comes only as we learn to think as the Master did. A person may to the material senses appear to be in a perfectly harmonious physical condition, but this does not mean that the person is thinking along scientific lines. And this was one of the things I had to learn. Step by step I commenced to realize that it was only as I kept my consciousness filled with Godlike thoughts that I brought forth the true sense of health and harmony in my life. I learned also that false traits of disposition are equally as erroneous as a so-called physical disease.
After my marriage, at the birth of our first child, I apparently failed in my sincere efforts to rely absolutely upon God. I succumbed to the arguments of mortal mind advanced through the physician. Needless to say, this left me in a very unsettled and unhappy mental condition, as I felt that I had failed in my ability to apply the truth. During the following months, however, I never lost my faith in Science, as I knew that it was my application of it which had failed, and not the truth itself.
