God the Only Power

"Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all." So we read in the twenty-ninth chapter of I Chronicles. What an emphatic statement of the all-power, the allness, of God! But mankind persists in believing in a power besides God, good, in an evil power. And from this basic error arise in belief the many phases of evil with which we are continually struggling. It seemed largely a losing battle until Mrs. Eddy gave to the world in Christian Science a demonstrable explanation of what God really is, and of man's relation to Him.

Through the study of the inspired writings of Mrs. Eddy, unnumbered thousands are learning that evil is not power, as she tells us on pages 398 and 399 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." She writes, "Evil has no power, no intelligence, for God is good, and therefore good is infinite, is All." They are learning, as Christian Science teaches, that God, divine Mind, is the only power, and that man is the reflection, the manifestation or expression, of this all-good, all-powerful Mind, which governs all, joyously, harmoniously, from the humblest idea to the entire universe. The prophet Isaiah evidently sensed these great truths about God when he wrote, "Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth."

Fear, the archenemy to mental peace and that which causes so much suffering, arises from the false belief in a power opposed to God. Mankind fears that it may at any moment become the helpless victim of this so-called evil power, even to the point of being utterly destroyed. The real man under the domination of an evil power! Such is inconceivable when we begin to understand the truth about man, who, as the Bible declares in the first chapter of Genesis, is made in the likeness of God, and is given dominion "over all the earth."
