For many years we, a family of three, have experienced the joy of victories won in Christian Science. My own healing came to me after years of invalidism and suffering under the care of physicians. The resources of materia medica had been appealed to in vain. The last surgeon to whom my case was intrusted, one of the most eminent in Los Angeles, told me after an examination that an operation would never reach the difficulty, and advised me to turn to Christian Science as it was the only thing that could heal me.

It was with the fear of total blindness and insanity facing me that my cry for help went out to an "unknown God." After much stumbling and falling in seeking healing, I was persuaded to have Christian Science treatment, wherein I learned that true prayer is answered. At the first visit from a Christian Science practitioner,—one whom I had never seen before,—I experienced an instantaneous healing of partial blindness. My eyes had been carefully examined by one of our leading oculists, who informed me that the sight was almost gone and that he would not be able to do anything for me. With the first glimpse of true existence my sight was restored instantaneously, and I have read and studied for years, never again feeling the need of glasses. I experienced at first a sense of disappointment because the trouble which was causing me the most suffering was the last to yield. Even this I learned to be grateful for, as it compelled me to pray more earnestly, and impelled devotion to the things of Spirit. Much help was given by the practitioner; but it was not until the understanding of man's true relationship to his Maker became apparent to me that I no longer dwelt upon the finite, erroneous sense of self, but instead contemplated the perfect nature of God. It is God with whom man is forever united. In this illumined consciousness it was seen that there was nothing to overcome, nothing to alter, nothing to improve upon—all was joyous activity in the unfolding of divine qualities. From that hour I was restored to a life of activity and usefulness.

It is now more than eighteen years since my first healings, and they have remained permanent. Since these healings we have had the privilege of raising our son in Christian Science. The receptivity of the child's thought has been exceedingly helpful. Seldom has it required more than a single statement of truth from our Leader's writings to meet any difficulty. An attack of measles was overcome in less than twenty-four hours, whooping cough in a day's time, and other ills have yielded instantaneously.
