Fulfillment

"If ye fulfil the royal law ... ye do well."—James 2:8

Well for that man who, day by day,
With steadfastness pursues his quest
Keeping the narrow upward way,
Obedient to one high behest.
He triumphs over flesh and sin
Who makes the right his only cause
And cherishes, his heart within,
The law transcending human laws.

The royal law! The law of kings!
The kingly law, by which man reigns
A potentate o'er earthly things,
Lord of invisible demesnes!
He rises into realms above,
And climbs the ladder Jacob saw,
Who knows, because his God is Love,
That he who loves fulfills the law.
