[Written for the Sentinel]

"What we most need"*

DEAR Father-Mother God, I pray to Thee,
And know that Thou wilt grant me my desire,
If that desire be all unfeigned and pure.
I ask Thee for a holy quietness,
For righteousness, and love, and joy, and peace,
The outcome of a consecrated life
Devoted to Thy service; that each thought
May be made captive in obedience
To our dear loving Master, Jesus Christ.
Thus day by day and step by step to gain
A better understanding of Thyself;
To grow in grace and knowledge; to reflect
For all my fellow-men the Love divine;
To glorify Thee, Father-Mother God.
