I did not take up the study of the truth as taught by Mrs. Eddy expecting to receive any physical benefit, but to learn what had caused the conversion and such a wonderful change in the life of a friend of mine after he had taken up the study of Christian Science. I had been reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy but a short time when I realized that I was freed from a trouble that I had supposed I would be compelled to put up with all my life, for I had tried many remedies recommended for what mortals call catarrh. Our family are all interested in Christian Science now, and have been for a number of years. They have always been relieved when help was called for.
I want to tell of another experience I went through some time ago, and the wonderful protection I received. Only the hand of our Father-Mother God could give such protection. I had been in the habit of lighting the fires with coal oil for a good many years, without any trouble. But once there was an explosion, and oil was blown over the room and on to the ceiling. My wife said my head was on fire. I opened my eyes expecting to find the whole room ablaze. There was no fire, however, outside of the stove, except what was on me. To mortal sense I was badly burned. After allaying my fear, I tried to realize the truth as I understood it, and continued to hold to it. I was healed in a very short time without any trace of the burn being left. The hair on my eyebrows and head soon grew again. Have I not reason to be thankful?
Words are inadequate to express the gratitude I wish to express for this and many other blessings that my family and I have received through the truth as taught in God's Word, and made plain to us through Christian Science.
