In the fall of 1910, while a babe in the study of Christian Science, through a succession of seeming upheavals which swept from me everything mortal mind would have us believe was worth possessing, I was so placed as to find it necessary to earn my living. This brought doubt, fear, pride, and self-pity in full force.

Pride took me away from home, and I secured a good position in a northern New York town. On my third night there, I was awakened by a strange bodily sensation and in great fear of I knew not what. As I arose and was frantically searching in my desk drawer, something said, "What are you seeking?" I thought: "My timetable." Then came the question, "Are you going home to your doctor?" "No! Why, I know God is here just as in New York city!" I turned off my light and returned to bed—happy, with trust in God awakened—and instantly fell asleep. When I awoke next morning the same sense of fear returned. Being completely surrounded by strangers, and in ignorance of the list of practitioners in the monthly Journal, I selected a dear lady who managed the department in which I worked and inquired if she knew any Christian Scientist in town. She did, and made an appointment for me with a practitioner, to whom I went at once. I was met with so much love and kindness that it was not surprising that I received immediate help and was able to go to business, where I remained all day. That night I received an absent treatment. I read from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; went to bed; slept peacefully all night; and arose next morning free and clear.

The joy I experienced that morning can never be adequately expressed. I was grateful to God; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; to dear Mrs. Eddy; and to the loving practitioner, whose understanding of Truth so quickly calmed my fears and sent me out rejoicing, knowing God's love and care.
