I am grateful for an opportunity to give a testimony to the efficacy of Christian Science. People come to our Wednesday evening testimony meetings hungry, and they can be abundantly fed from Christ's table. Some think one must have faith to receive the healing. I can truthfully say it is not so, as I was a medical nurse when I received my first healing, knew very little about Christian Science, and for a number of years had talked against what I understood it to be; but "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I was suffering from a goiter which had advanced to where something must be done to get relief. I consulted one of the best surgeons on the North American continent, who said nothing but an operation could help me. I said that surely there was something we could use for relief until I could decide upon the operation. He said, "No, nothing but the knife or a miracle would relieve that." Perhaps not many can realize what it meant to me, a nurse, to have a doctor make a remark like that. I looked at him and said, "Well, doctor, a miracle will relieve it, then." I knew very little of Christian Science, but I went from his office and found the Christian Science Reading Room and asked for the name of a practitioner. I was given the list of names of practitioners for that city in The Christian Science Journal. I selected one, called on her that afternoon, and was healed. It was about a year and a half before the swelling disappeared, but I never had any discomfort from the condition after that first day.
I had had my healing and was determined to find out what had healed me. I arduously studied the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At first I might have been reading Sanskrit for all I understood of it; but I persisted, as I must know what had healed me. At last, after reading the periodicals, pamphlets, and all of Mrs. Eddy's writings, and studying the weekly Lesson-Sermon daily, I came to know that, as our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, puts it so beautifully in the "Mother's Evening Prayer" (Poems, p. 4),
