I was born about five hours' journey from the city of Damascus. A short time before my birth my parents had embraced the Protestant religion through some missionaries of the Presbyterian church, and since that time my near relatives, who still live in that part of the world, have adhered to that religious teaching. My husband was born in Macedonia, but we have lived in the United States for quite a number of years.

I was led to Christian Science on the eve of going to the hospital for an operation for appendicitis, adhesions, and the removal of an affected organ. An acquaintance whom I went to see on business one Saturday morning lovingly pleaded with me not to go, and asked me to try Christian Science. To please him, and also from curiosity, I consented to let him take me to a practitioner, which he was happy to do. I remained for some time in the practitioner's office, discussing the Bible, with which I was quite familiar. I was very happy over the explanations he gave me of the life of Jesus and of man's creation in God's image. I asked him if he would come to the hospital after the operation, because I wanted to ask many more questions. He siad he would gladly do so if he were called.

I left the office and managed to do a little shopping, with that sweet sound in my ears—"God's image and likeness;" and when I finally boarded a street car, and was jolted and forced down on a seat, I discovered that it did not hurt me. Then I realized that I was healed. Upon reaching home I had a good lunch of substantial food, which I had not dared to eat for some time, and I then called the physician and told him that I would not have the operation.
