About four years ago I received my first introduction to Christian Science. For many years I had been in a very distressing condition, suffering from goiter, nerves, abnormal action of the heart, and acute indigestion. I consulted many doctors, who suggested various remedies for goiter and nerves; and for sixteen weeks I was an in-patient at a hospital, where for part of that time X-ray treatment was applied, and this continued for some time afterwards when attending as an out-patient. These remedies, however, proved to be of little avail; and I was so weak, and my heart in so bad a condition, that I could walk only a short distance, and for no apparent reason I was continually falling. My eyes also were greatly affected and very prominent. I then turned to Christian Science and with the help received, was healed in twenty-one days of the growth in my neck and of the nervous condition. To my great joy I awakened one morning free from the bondage which had held me for so many years. A short time afterward I was completely healed of indigestion.
I am thankful for these experiences, for as Mrs. Eddy states in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 410), "Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger;" and she adds, "The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love." I have also been healed of sore throat, a tendency to take cold quickly, and rheumatism in the arm.
I owe more than I can express in words to God, to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to the loving practitioner who with her clear understanding of Truth enabled me to understand God as the Giver of all good, that harmony is real, and that discordant conditions are errors of belief which Truth can and does destroy. I am very grateful for Christian Science and for all its activities; for membership with The Mother Church and a Christian Science Society; and for a clearer perception of the Scriptures through the study of our textbook.—(Miss) Louisa Elizabeth Gasson, Colchester, Essex, England.
