Supply for All

When winter's winds blow, thought often turns to those seemingly less fortunate folk who may be suffering from lack of proper food and clothing and warmth. One to whom this thought always brought unhappiness and the feeling that, however much she might wish to help, there was little she could do, found that Christian Science offers the answer to this problem, as to every other. The answer came clearly from the verses in the seventy-second psalm, which read: "He shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper. He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy."

We are taught in Christian Science that God is the source of supply, and that we should look to Him for our every need. But so often we apply this to our own personal problems, and fail to apply it to the problems of all mankind. We seem to overlook the fact that God's promises are unto all generations. The declaration of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, on page 494 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," that "to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good," reiterates this.

The realization that God is the source of supply—not only for our own needs and the needs of those with whom we are in touch, but for all His children, everywhere and at all times—frees us from the sense of helplessness to aid, and from entertaining a false sense of responsibility. And this realization, held to in consciousness, will help to free all mankind eventually from the false conditions that seem to produce lack, suffering, and poverty. We are doubting God's omnipotence and ever-presence when we accept as real the manifestations of poverty, as much as if we accepted the material evidence of sickness as true.
