About two years ago I fell backwards, the force of the fall coming upon my head and wrist and arm. At first there was great pain, but after obtaining help from a practitioner I was able to resume the duties of the evening and later on get to bed without assistance. A few days later a doctor who casually saw the arm said it was certainly broken. He spoke of the intense pain and the sleepless nights I must be enduring, and asked to put my arm in a splint. I said that I was receiving Christian Science treatment and relying entirely on Christian Science for the healing; that although it was painful at times I could use the arm for all that was necessary, and had not lost any sleep on account of it. I had not before thought of the arm as broken and had to eliminate some fear after this conversation, but I soon realized that in Mind there had been no accident and that nothing could hinder the reflection of Mind's activity; and I did all that it was my usual custom to do.
A fortnight later (eighteen days after the accident) I had an X-ray picture taken. The report returned was, a transverse fracture of the larger bone close to the wrist and the extreme end of the smaller bone broken off; and a verbal message was sent that neglect to take medical treatment meant a permanently stiff wrist and a deformed arm. I was rather disappointed that no mention was made of the healing, as I felt sure that the bones had righted. A few days later the doctor who first saw the arm telephoned to find out how it was getting on and asked if he might see the plates, merely as a matter of interest. When he returned them, he wrote, "The plates show a practically healed fracture—splendid union; the alignment is excellent, and I should think recovery complete." I was very grateful for the honest report he gave, for all the help I had received in Christian Science, and for the strength and understanding obtained through this experience.—(Miss) Florence M. Barnes, Rustington, near Littlehampton, Sussex, England.
