I first heard of Christian Science about four years ago,...
I first heard of Christian Science about four years ago, at which time I was suffering from a nervous complaint and had just undergone a month's electric treatment at a London hospital in the hope of obtaining relief, but without success. Then Christian Science was presented to me. I did not know anything at all about it, and was somewhat skeptical of its ability to heal me; but after thinking over what had been said to me, I decided to obtain a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It took me about six weeks to read this book through; and although there was much that I did not understand, I suddenly realized that during those six weeks I had not had one of my nervous attacks—in fact, I had forgotten all about them! And with one exception, an attack which was very quickly overcome, they have never returned. Needless to say, I have continued the study of this wonderful Science, and it is impossible to express in words my gratitude for all that it has done for me.
Before taking up the study of Christian Science I never knew what it was to feel really well. I was subject to severe nervous headaches, sore throats, bronchitis, rheumatism, and other minor troubles, and had had two or three nervous breakdowns. Through the loving help of a practitioner, the headaches on several occasions have been quickly healed. I have also twice been entirely healed of influenza without any after effects at all, and of a sprained ankle in three days. Shortly after I commenced studying, and upon realizing the fact that sight is spiritual and not material, I put aside glasses which I had worn for several years, and which I had been told I must always wear for close work of any kind; and I have never needed them since. Christian Science is of immense help to me in my daily life, and through the process of right thinking I have been able to overcome to a very great extent a sense of fear which I previously had.
I wish to express deep gratitude for the church services, the Reading Rooms, and for all the Christian Science literature, which supplies us so beautifully with spiritual food. I am indeed thankful to God, to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for giving to the world this wonderful truth which makes us free. I am also very grateful to the practitioners who have so lovingly helped me in time of need; and I feel I can never be sufficiently grateful to the friend who first so presented the truth to me that I was influenced to turn to Christian Science at a time of great need.
