I wish to express, through the Christian Science periodicals,...
I wish to express, through the Christian Science periodicals, my gratitude for what Christian Science has done and is doing for me. I was led to it through the healing of a friend, who was able, although in Science only a short time, to help me overcome a seemingly severe attack of tonsillitis. One of the things she told me to do was to rejoice; and although at first it seemed hard to do, through a desire to be obedient I succeeded to some extent. On page 1 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes, "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." As I pondered over this, it came to me, as a glorious thought, that to rejoice meant to be thankful. And as I thanked God for the healing of others, I knew that I too would be healed. Then, after attending a Christian Science lecture, that same night I slept, and awoke the following morning perfectly healed. That same morning I read from the Christian Science textbook to my son, who was suffering from the same condition from which I had recovered, with the result that within an hour he was healed.
A beautiful healing was experienced by my grandson, who came to live with me after the passing on of his mother. He became seriously ill with convulsions; and as I worked for the baby, a healing thought came to me from reading the metaphysical article which appeared that morning in The Christian Science Monitor on God's ever present help. Realizing this help, I took the little one in my arms, declaring aloud for this ever present truth, while some one called a practitioner by telephone for assistance. Although those present except myself believed the child to be passing on, the convulsions ceased. For ten days he suffered from what would have been called inflammation of the bowels and pneumonia. The father was actuated by a fear that had to be overcome by Science, and other members of the family wanted a physician, but through my influence no doctor was called, the child being left to the care of God, divine Love. In about two weeks he was able to sit up in his chair, radiating health. He is now over five years of age, full of life and joy, and blessed with the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School.
Personally, I have had many healings in Christian Science, including severe headaches, extreme weakness, nervous affection, disordered stomach. Some of my grandchildren have been healed of measles, whooping cough, and many ailments to which children are generally subject. I am therefore grateful for all that Christian Science has done for me and mine. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church, also in a branch church, and the blessed privilege of class instruction in Christian Science.
