When Christian Science was first brought to my attention...
When Christian Science was first brought to my attention through the kindness of a friend, who placed in my hands a few copies of the Christian Science Sentinel, I very eagerly turned to the testimonies of healing which I found there. I gained great comfort and encouragement from reading the healings of all kinds of disease, and found some who had been lifted out of conditions as deplorable as those that seemed to be overcoming me.
After several years of invalidism, with its attendant physical sufferings and mental depression, I had abandoned all hope of ever being well again; in fact, the doctors who had so kindly and faithfully attended me were candid enough to admit that nothing more could be done to relieve the diseased condition of my stomach. It was therefore in a very hopeless, half-hearted way that I turned my thoughts to what has proved to be the greatest boon that has ever come into my life. Just about this time I heard of the healing, through Christian Science treatment, of a friend resident in a distant state. Being encouraged by her experience, I decided at once to seek help from the same source that had brought healing to her.
There were only a very few people at that time in my home town who were at all interested in Christian Science, but I sought help from a Scientist in a near-by city whose name was given me, and in spite of the intense opposition of family and friends I began the earnest study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and all authorized Christian Science literature. Some months elapsed before I experienced perfect healing; but from that time, twenty-two years ago, until the present I have been a well and active woman, and so grateful for the privilege that has been mine of carrying this healing message to others.
